TUNSA Space Summer School
The first International Space Summer School in Tunisia was held at the Mohamed Ali Institute in Sfax, from Tuesday, September 5th, to Friday, September 8th, 2023. This event was funded by the Swiss Embassy in Tunisia and supported by the Ministry of Education and the Italian Embassy in Tunisia, in collaboration with academic, industrial institutions, and associations in Tunisia, Switzerland, and Italy. The primary goal of the TUNSA Space Summer School was to contribute to the enhancement of the public education system in Tunisia, which has been instrumental in training Tunisian experts in the field of space, recognized internationally for their competence. Additionally, it aimed to mentor and train future leaders in the aerospace sector and scientific and technological fields in Tunisia. The project also supports efforts towards achieving sustainable development goals through satellite technology. The summer school provided a rare opportunity in Tunisia for students from various space institutes to receive training in different space disciplines, including space technology, space applications, space laws and regulations, space life sciences, space robotics, and astrophysics. Particularly, it enabled them to learn about satellite manufacturing according to international technical standards and study space missions comprehensively, covering technical, financial, legal aspects, and the applications used for these missions. This includes studying the effects of climate change (such as temperature rise, changes in sea salinity, forest fires, etc.) on biodiversity on land and sea, focusing on endangered species. Overall, the International Space Summer School in Tunisia was a pivotal event aimed at advancing education, fostering expertise, and contributing to the sustainable development agenda through cutting-edge space technology and applications.
