TUNSAT-1 Satellite

The first educational satellite in Tunisia, is a 1-Unit CubeSat designed and developed by a selection of brilliant students from Tunisian universities, guided by experts and scientists in the space sector from TUNSA and its wide international network. The project is  funded by the ESPITA (engineering school in Sousse, Tunisia), with the support of 17 members of the Tunisian space association TUNSA. The satellite TUNSAT-1 will be launched by the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and deployed to space from the International Space Station (ISS) by an astronaut. The project was awarded the 6th round of the KiboCube competition co-managed by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and JAXA. The main objective of the "TUNSAT-1" cubesat project is to enhance Tunisia's capabilities in space by deploying a sophisticated device into orbit around 400 kilometres above the Earth's surface. Furthermore, this initiative will facilitate the transfer of expertise from Japan to Tunisia through ongoing coordination and technical collaboration with JAXA throughout the mission's duration of approximately one and a half years. Ultimately, the debut of Tunisia's first academic satellite will act as a catalyst, inspiring Tunisian engineers to excel in space and advanced technological pursuits. TUNSAT-1 not only serves as a source of national pride but also paves the way for further advancements in the country's spacefaring endeavours, inspiring future generations to move their dreams forward.
